10 Tips to be Safe on the Road

 

1.Plan your Trip.

Having a plan will make you more prepared. The better you have your trip planned out the safer your trip will be.

 

2.Check Weather reports.

Keep track of changes and avoid dangerous driving conditions whenever possible.

 

3.Wear your seat belt.

The use of seatbelts is not only required, but it’s also the most preventable way to reduce injury. More than 40% of crash-related deaths occur every year from not wearing a seatbelt.

 

4.Use a Trucker’s GPS

A GPS designed especially  for truckers will show vital information such as which exit to take, distance before exit, when to change lanes, traffic reports etc.

 

5.Do not use your cell phone while driving.

Besides being illegal in most states to use a handheld mobile phone while driving. Talking, texting or looking at your phone screen is distracting and can lead to a serious accident.

 

6.Do not drink alcohol and/or do drugs.

Although this may sound obvious, drinking and/or doing drug while driving is very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. This include anything that impairs your judgment or physical faculties.

 

7.Respect the Speed limits.

Driving heavy equipment on the road comes with a great responsibility. Stay within the speed limit to keep you and the ones around you safer.

 

8.Leave room in front of your Rig.

Make sure to maintain a safe stopping distance between you and any vehicles ahead of you. Keeping your head forward and reducing distractions will help you avoid unwanted interactions.

 

9.Slow down on Curves.

Be careful when making turns on a curvy road. Slow down accordingly to adjust for lane changes and other vehicles.

 

10.Take breaks and Check your Truck

Stop and take regular breaks as need. Get in a good stretch. Do a walk around the truck and trailer. Check your load.  Look for soft tires, air leaks, check under the truck for any dripping coolant or oil.
